In 1997 First United Methodist Church became one of 37 churches in nine denominations in the Micah 6 Pilot Project started by the National Council of Churches. The purpose of this project is to support congregations who seek a new commitment to biblical faithfulness. The Micah 6 program emphasizes a continuing process of study, prayer, action and service in an attempt to integrate justice, compassion and spiritual growth.

By becoming a Micah 6 Church we have taken as a goal to enhance current or to initiate new ministries of justice, compassion, and spiritual growth by

listening and responding to the needs and concerns that arise from within the congregation and from the surrounding community

becoming agents for change within our community, through advocacy and service

deepening the spirituality of the congregation through a new understanding of discipleship and by increasing opportunities for spiritual formation
